Update I

Het heeft even langer geduurd dan verwacht voordat er weer een berichtje is verschenen. Dit wil niet zeggen dat er op in ons Quiltatelier niets is gebeurd. Kijk maar! The Carpenter Star is een quilt gemaakt door Gerda voor haar broer. Deze werd 65 en is (was, hij is nu pensionado) timmerman van beroep. Vandaar de blokken Carpenter Star en Log Cabin.

It took longer as expected before a new post. This doesn't mean nothing happened in our Quiltstudio. Look for yourself! The Carpenter Star is a quilt made by Gerda especialy for her brother when he turned 65. His profession is (was, he's retired now) carpenter. That's why the choise of blocks - The Carpenter start & The Log Cabin.

Hij gaat al jaren naar Griekenland op vakantie en helpt daar zelfs olijfolie maken. Vandaar dan ook een speciale achterkant.

For many years he spend his hollidays in Greece. He even helps there to make olive-oil. That's the reason for a special backside.

Een deel van de top heeft heel lang in de UFO-box gelegen omdat er gevoelsmatig iets niet klopte en als je er dan  maar niet achter kunt komen komen wat -iets- is dan is dat een teleurstelling. Maar gelukkig gaat het spreekwoord "komt tijd, komt raad" ook hier weer op. Na meer dan een jaar was er de A-HA!-erlebnis.

A part of the top spend a long time in the UFO-box, because there was thet feeling of somthing is not wright but I've no idea what that -something- is. Fortunatly we have a saying in Holland " With time comes advice"and that did it. After more than a year the A-HA!-moment was there.

Natuurlijk gaan we niet op reis zonder een quilt. Dus speciaal om op vakantie heerlijk onder te slapen heeft Gerda de Camper Quilt afgemaakt. Een echte quilter kan ook op vakantie tenslotte niet zonder haar hobby.

Of course we don't travel without a quilt. So to sleep wonderfuly Gerda finshed the Camper Quilt. A true quiltster can't without her hobby on her holliday.

Ook heeft Gerda door Bonnie K Hunter het scrapquilten ontdekt en vindt dit superleuk om te doen. Hoe je toch van alle "vindt ik toch niet zo mooi"-stofjes een hele mooie quilt (voor- en achterkant) kan maken. Zelfs zo mooi dat DH de quilt wilde hebben. Hij vond dat de quilt iets middeleeuws had.

Gerda discovered Bonnie K Hunters scrapquilting and likes this verry much. How is it possible to make a beautiful quilt (front and back) from fabrics - I don't like so much after all-. Even so beautiful that DH wanted to have the quilt. He liked the medieval look of it.

Er is ook nog een dromenquiltje met quiltbewaarhoesje  ontstaan.

Also a dreamquilt with special cover (also to use as a pillowcase)was made.

Er is ook nog een jubileum quilt gemaakt door Gerda voor haar oom en tante die 60 jaar getrouwd waren. Voor elk jaar een ster!

Gerda made another 60th marriage anniversary quilt for her aunt and uncle. Each year has it's own star.

We proberen weer langzaam de draad op te pakken na meer dan 1 jaar. We hebben niet stilgezeten met quiltwerk ook al gaat dit voor Marielle in een traag tempo door haar slechte zien en ziek zijn. Dus zullen we de komende tijd terugkijken op de quilts die af zijn en waar we nog mee bezig zijn. Vandaag is de quilt klaar voor mijn zus die vorig jaar al beloofd was.

We try slowly to pick up our lives after more than one year. We didn't stop piecing and quilting even this is  slow motion for Mariëlle due to her bad vision and illness. So the coming period we will be looking back on the finished quilts and the ones still in progres. Today the quilt for my sister is finished which was promissed for more than over a year ago.

show and tell

We hebben veel te laten zien. dus dit wordt een lang bericht !
Door alle ziekteperikelen van Marielle is quilten en foto's laten zien wat  op de achtergrond geraakt. Het is zo frustrerend voor haar om thuis te moeten zijn, niet kunnen werken en weinig te doen. Ze kan niet auto rijden, niet fietsen en niet alleen op pad meer zolang ze nog niet beter gaat zien. TV kijken is TV luisteren, boeken lezen gaat niet meer. met de PC gaat het ook niet. Dus quilts ontwerpen wat haar plannen waren staat nu achter aan de lijst. behalve die quilts die ze al gemaakt heeft voordat ze ziek werd.

Cause to all the perils of Mariëlle's illness quilting and showing pictures on our blog somewhat faded into the background. It's so frustrating for her to be at home unable to work and do just  a few things. She can't drive a car, ride a bicycle or go out on her own as long as her sight doesn't improve. Watching TV is listening TV, reading a book or working on the PC is also impossible. Designing quilts (were her plans) is move to the end of the to do list, except for the ones she already made before she fell ill.

Daarom even alles op een rijtje gezet waar we mee bezig waren en op een langzaam pitje mee doorgaan.
Therefore a summon of the things we were doing and still do on a much slower base.

De quilt is ontworpen door Mariëlle. Zij heeft ook de applicaties ontworpen en gemaakt.  De blokken voor de rand zijn gemaakt door de dames van de Bee "Totaal Quilters"  . Lenie (heeft geen blog) heeft de naam op het middenpaneel geborduurd en Gerda heeft alles in elkaar gezet en doorgequilt. Dit Cadeau is gegeven toen de winkel 5 jaar bestond  vorig jaar op 25 november 2011.

The quilt is designed by Mariëlle. She also designed and made the appliques herself. The border blocks are made by the ladies of the Bee "Totaal Quilters". Lenie (no blog lady)has machine embroidered the centerpiece and Gerda pieced and quilted the quilt. This present was given when the shop existed 5 years last year (november 25th)

New Start

Voor iedereen een heel gezond 2012.

First of all a very healthy 2012 everyone.

Het is al een tijd heel rustig geweest op ons blog. Onze hoofden stonden niet naar leuke berichtjes door de situatie. DD ziet nog steeds niet goed en heeft ook veel en zware hoofdpijnen van de trombose.  Een nieuw jaar geeft nieuwe hoop en moed voor de toekomst. Geïnspireerd door Diane Rose  (de blinde quilter) is DD met hulp van mij letterlijk de draad gaan oppakken. Zie hier het resultaat van elke dag een aantal steekjes.

It has been very quiet on our blog for a while now. We didn't feel like making nice posts due to the whole situation. DD still doesn't see clear and has also severe headaches of the thromboses. A new year gives hope end courage for the future. Inspired by Diane Rose (the blind quilter)has DD with my help literally picked up the pieces. See here the result of a few pieces every day.

Birmingham II

Nu ik weer goed zie en Marielle niet ben ik de nieuwe web-master geworden.
We blijven hopen dat de gezondheid van D.D. beter wordt en het zien ook.
Ze heeft 11 jaar voor mij voorgelezen, foto,s gemaakt en andere zaken. en nu is het mijn beurt.

Since my eyes are better and D.D. eyes not , I became the new web-master.
We hope that her health wile improve as well as her sight
She did  read for me and made pictures and other things for 11 years, and now its my turn.

Kan ik eindelijk goed zien , doet Marielle's bloed weer moeilijk.

Ze heeft een zeer zeldzame genetische trombose in haar hersenen gekregen waardoor ze in beide ogen zeer slecht is gaan zien. Is alweer uit het ziekenhuis en moet nu herstellen.  We hopen dat het zien verbeterd door de medicatie. Dus het bloggen was minder en blijft een tijdje minder frequent.

Finally I can see clear, now is Marielle's  blood doing difficult. She has a rare genetic thrombosis in her brains , what makes the sight in both her eyes badly. She is already out of the hospital and must recover. We hope that the sight will improve with medication. So the blogging was less en stays less for a while.

Festival of Quilts Birmingham

We zijn weer terug van de Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. Het was geweldig en zeker voor herhaling vatbaar.  Mooie quilts gezien, leuke mensen ontmoet en leuke inkopen gedaan. De winkels zijn voor nederlandse quilters een paradijs, voor de nederlandse knip een ramp (het is zo goedkoop je geeft gewoon te veel uit)!

We’re back from our visit of the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. Our visit was great and will definitely get a sequel. We’ve seen lovely quilts, met very nice people and made some nice purchases. For Dutch quilters the shops are a paradise, for the Dutch wallet a disaster( it's so cheap you simply spent too much)!

We hebben weinig meegekregen van de rellen. Wel tijdens ons bezoek aan Birmingham centrum het spoor van de vernielingen gezien (veel mensen op nieuwe Nike sportschoenen) en op advies op tijd weer terug naar het hotel.

We didn’t notice much of the riots. During our visit to Birmingham we’ve seen the trace of demolitions (many people on new Nike sneakers). But we went on advice early back to the hotel.

De tentoonstelling was kleiner dan ik verwacht had. Dit had te maken met mijn verwachtingen toen ik hoorde dat er meer dan 1000 quilts tentoongesteld zouden worden. Ik had er geen rekening mee gehouden dat hier ook veel miniatuur quilts bij hoorde. Er waren niet alleen mooie quilts, maar ook hele leuke

The exhibition was smaller as I expected. This due to my expectations when I found out that there would be more than 1000 quilts. I didn’t realize that there were also a lot of miniature quilts. There were not only beautiful quilts, but funny ones as well.

De ‘best of show”was een hele mooie quilt. De mensen die mijn blog lezen  weten dat ik bevooroordeeld ben want dit was een van mijn favorieten van de Open Europese Quiltkampioenschappen 2011. Ze won  maar liefst 4 prijzen met haar 2 deelnemende quilts.

The best of show was a very beautiful quilt. For the people who’ve reading this blog, know I’m biased because it was one of my favourites on the Open European Quilt Championships 2011. She won 4 prizes with her 2 participating quilts.

Hoe verschillend kunnen juryrapporten zijn.......................
Op de OEQC had ik voor mijn quilt veel vieren ,vijven en zessen, een zeven en een drie! Op de foto  het rapport van de jury van het festival in Birmingham.

On the OEQC they gave me for my quilt a lot of 4,5 and 6 points, one 7 and one 3. On the picture you see the rapport by the jury of The Festival of Quilts.
